Well how disappointing is that! Just opened my Euro Blogging By Post #6 parcel and there is a distinct absence of porcelain sparrows! No aardvarks or sloths either. I really don’t think Gizella looked hard enough. ;-)

So, despite discovering the gap in the Hungarian porcelain figurine market, (which if truth be told I am very pleased about really, as knick-knacks and me don’t go), I think I am a very lucky boy this week! A marvellous collection of Hungarian goodies arrived today – a bit worried though that Tüzes Patkó (fiery horseshoe) is actually made of horse (better than sparrow mind) and that the Puszta ize (paprika sauce, from Gizella’s home town of Kiskunfélegyháza) will be too hot for my delicate English palate. (delicate? Yeh, right - I should relate the story of the four mouse-shit peppers in Kanchanaburi, Thailand!)

Then there are the chocolates, and the homemade plum jam (szilva) and TWO bottles of Tokaji (one sweet, the other dry). Plus there are three huge marzipan sweets/cakes(?) made by, Szamos, one of the top confectioners in Hungary. Each is flavoured with hazelnut, orange and pistachio. Delicious. Yes indeed, I do think I have done very well indeed from this round of Euro Blogging By Post.

Sok köszönet Gizella (aubergine.freeblog.hu).

PS Thanks Johanna for hosting.

UPDATE: I actually misread Gizella's letter. The picture below is of 'barack' - cookies made by her own fair hands. Wondered why I couldn't taste marzipan! The marzipan sweets are in the little red box above - labelled, as you would expect, with the name of the producer Szamos. I have just guzzeled the last one.

Thanks for letting me know when next EBBP is Andrew, but who is hosting? I'd love to host (hint hint), who decides those things? I mean is it you, the creator, or the last host??
Anyway, love the fact that you came up with the idea to begin with!!!

aahh... I was hoping you would be treated to some dessert wine! lucky you! maybe you want to bring this to our next meeting (although it'll have to be after I've dropped, mind you)...

What's this about aardvarks, sloths & sparrows? In porcelain too?!? This is a whole new, hitherto unseen side of you!! :o)

Great parcel btw...

:-) In her letter Gizella mentioned that she wanted to include a parcelain sparrow 'just for fun' not too sure why (oh, those crazy Hungarians!) and also mentioned that none of the contents contians sparrow, aardvark or sloth.

I should also point out that the sausage is made form pork (not horse) it is just the name - fiery horseshoe...

what a delicious package you've got there, and i look forward to the next ebbp... can we make it in january-ish because i won't be in europe in february! :)
