I Don’t like bananas so they are replaced by two chopped, still firm pears and with the cupboard empty of pecans, walnuts are substituted. All well and good - but what the bloody 'ell am I going on about? Johanna's brownie recipe. It all works although the brownie is very, very moist making me wonder if a little less butter or a little more flour should be used; either that or I undercooked it which is all likelihood is more probably the reason! The quantities of chocolate for the topping though is, in my opinion, double what is needed but it was fun licking the remains from the bowl…

i am glad it worked with the pears - of course they are wetter than bananas, but brownies are meant to be really moist. i know it goes against what we know as cakes here in europe - probably a reflection of the fact that our metric system is more accurate (oh, have I just put my foot in here?)...
the quantities for the icing were meant for icing individual pieces, if you ice the brownies on the tray as a whole, less is required... I will make this clear in the recipe.
probably a good thing you didn't have pecans, walnuts work really well with pears!

I don't like bananas either. Glad to know it can be replaced by pear in brownies.. Thanks!

Mmmmmm - heavenly! I also do not do bananas so the pear substitute sounds interesting. Wonder what other fruit it might work with? And great site redesign btw! I thought I'd left you a comment to this effect the other day but now I can't find it... So apologies if I'm repeating myself! ;-)
